Pamela Berry
When you meet Pamela, you’ll be struck by two things—her obvious happiness and her happiness to see you.Pamela can’t contain her joy. It explodes in her big grin that instantly has you grinning back. And when she speaks, she’s almost breathless, ready to tell you all the things she loves. Baking teacakes. Watching soap operas. Working with friends at Goodwill. And learning to operate a computer through Goodwill’s training. “I go to work every day and make my own money,” Pamela says. “It makes me feel good.” Recently, Pamela began computer training through Goodwill’s Career Solutions in addition to her work schedule. “I never thought I would be able to operate a computer,” she says. According to the instructor, however, Pamela is her star pupil. “With the help of the Lord and my [Goodwill] instructor, everything is possible.” To many, Pamela’s joys seem like little things. But what she is able to share with others adds up to more under the glow of her smile. Pamela regularly bakes sugar cookies for the elderly at a nearby Senior Citizen Center and delivers them herself. One has to wonder. Is it the joy her cooking brings or the joy Pamela always brings with her cooking that the folks at the Senior Citizen Center appreciate so much? |
