We have a number of options for you to support Goodwill and our mission. We have specific programs for automobile donations and estate donations. Although we do not have a formal fundraising campaign, we do accept monetary donations to support our mission.
Don’t want the hassle of trading in or selling your vehicle? Then give it to Goodwill! The process will only take 15 to 20 minutes. You can get started by filling out the form below.
We accept cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, and campers that are in good, drivable condition. The sale of which will go towards funding our job program services.
Goodwill will provide you at the time of donation, a receipt for your tax purposes. Within 30 days after the sale of your vehicle, Goodwill will notify you by mail regarding the gross proceeds generated from that sale. You are encouraged to speak with your tax advisor.
GUIDELINES FOR DONATING A VEHICLE
- Vehicles must be in running/drivable condition and must not need major repair. Goodwill does not have resources to make repairs.
- We will accept vehicles registered with the Tennessee Department of Motor Vehicles; including cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, campers, RVs, etc.
- The vehicle must also be registered/titled in the owner's name. Goodwill cannot accept titles that are only transferred to the owner--in other words, the back of the title cannot be signed over from the previous owner to the donor. If the title has been signed over to the donor, the donor must then register the title in his name before he or she can donate the vehicle to Goodwill.
- The titled owner must be present at the time of the donation with a valid picture identification card (if the vehicle is jointly titled, both parties will need to be present with their IDs).
- Titles cannot be pre-signed, they must be signed in the presence of a Goodwill representative. The original title to the vehicle must be brought at the time of donation and cannot have any liens on it (Clear Title). We cannot accept a vehicle without the title, and we cannot hold on to a vehicle until the title is brought in.
- Vehicles can only be accepted during normal business hours at the following locations: 10th Ave. Headquarters, and our Franklin, Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Dickson, Shelbyville, Gallatin, Fayetteville, Lawrenceburg, Gallatin, Fayetteville, Smyrna, Lebanon, Lexington, Springfield, Murfreesboro and Jackson stores. Vehicles cannot be accepted at a Donation Express Center. Vehicles left at any site before/after operating hours will be considered abandoned and towed at the owner's expense.
- After the donation, a letter acknowledging the donation and a copy of the IRS tax forms 8282 "Donee Information Return" and 8283 "Non-Cash Charitable Contributions" will be sent to the donor by mail. These forms and the donor's copy of the receipt (given at the time of the donation of the vehicle) will need to be kept if the donor intends to claim the donation on their taxes.
For more information, see the IRS Publication 4303, www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/pub4303.pdf (PDF).
Goodwill has developed the Community Closet Program that works with other local not-for-profit organizations.
Those organizations that have a clothing closet can donate items their clients and/or residents are not able to use in exchange for gift certificates to Goodwill stores. Goodwill will provide the donation container and pick up the donations.
We do not have an organized fundraising campaign. We rely on the sale of your donated items to fund our mission. However, if you wish to make a monetary donation, we’ll accept it and apply it to our mission.
